This interactive map calculates the total population that is visible on screen at any given time as the user zooms and pans the globe.

About the data:

The data in this map consist of 2020 versions of UN WPP-Adjusted population count and density geotiffs provided by Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC). Depending on the zoom level, the data visible is at 1 of 5 resolutions provided by SEDAC. The highest resolution is 30 seconds, or 1/120 degrees.

Data provided by SEDAC is open and free to use, and can be downloaded here from SEDAC.
