How big is something? How big is something compared to my house?

A 1 hour project to provide context of the size and scale of places. How do buildings, artworks, city blocks compare? This page puts 2 maps next to each other always locked at the same zoom level to show 2 different places at the same scale.

Some places to start are listed, these reflect my own curiosity about the scale of land art. Users are free to search for other places to compare using the search bar on either side.

*the web mercator projection is only accurate when zoomed into a certain level, such as parts of cities and landmarks, and cannot be used to compare countries, or large land masses.

Micheal Heizer’s City and the Great Pyramids in Giza.

James Turrell’s Rodin Crater next to The Palm Jumeirah, one of the artificial islands in Dubai

2 New York City museums on either sides of Central Park share similarly sized footprints: The Met and The Museum of Natural History.
